Don Julio

For my Christmas lunch I was extremely lucky to get a space in Don Julio with my parents. We booked months in advance, I remember every day my parents checking on whether they could book yet. You may wonder why, well Don Julio is the most famous steak place in Buenos Aires and I completely understand.

When you arrive you get champagne offered at the entrance while the staff prepares your table. Although I am only 12 I was also offered a glass, I kindly declined their offer as I waited for the table.

The restaurant looks very Argentinian with dark wood and fresh tomatoes hanging from the ceiling. The atmosphere was very welcoming and positive.

When you sit down home grown tomatoes with sugar on top are offered as they slice them professionally right before you.

I had sweet bread for starter and it was delicious. It tastes like no other meat. For main course I had an entrecôte on the bone grilled to perfection. The best steak I have ever had, it was juicy, flavorful, I found the spectacular taste hard to describe. You need to try it to be able to truly understand the perfection of the steak. The sizes were colossal and me and my mum could barely finish the delicious meal.

As dessert I enjoyed the most amazing Dulce de Leche pancake. A thin pancake filled with an enormous amount if Dulce de leche. As I cut into it I was scared that it would burst. Don Julio's Dulce de Leche was darker and richer and just unbelievably, mouth-wateringly good. But I couldn't even begin to describe it.

We had a wonderful lunch there and if you ever go to Buenos Aires make sure you visit.
