Chinese New Year- Hutong

It’s Chinese New Year! Kung Hei Fat Choi! For Chinese New Year I went to Hutong. Hutong is a Chinese restaurant with lots of different kinds of yummy Chinese foods. First arrived, 4 small dishes. Sliced Squid with Wasabi dressing, Seared Hokkaido scallop with sesame sauce, Chicken marinated in chili sauce and lastly Tea smoked tofu with carrot and mushroom. The squid was soft, thin and yummy. It was new to try the squid cut into thin slices. Next, the Seared Hokkaido scallop, it was soft and mega tasty. The chicken was too spicy for me but otherwise it was slightly crispy and soft inside. Last of the four dishes was the tea smoked tofu with carrot and mushroom. I think the combination was perfect together with the soft tofu, the mushrooms and the carrots. It all fit together.

Next we had the Dim Sum selection. First I had a pork bun. The dough was thin, the pork was juicy and it was enjoyable to eat. Next I had the steamed pork and shrimp sui mei. It was tasty and I liked the combination of the shrimp and pork rather than being just one flavor. Next we had the vegetarian spring rolls filled with mushroom and cabbage. The spring rolls were scrumptious, I liked the mushrooms in it. After that we had the crispy eggplant. It was soft like tofu in the middle while on the outside crispy and thin.

Then, we got Hunan style mandarin fish fillet. It was silky and smooth. It was one of my favorite dishes.

Dessert! Lovely Dessert! For dessert the first dish we had was the egg yolk custard and diced apple spring rolls. It was similar to a mini sweet sandwich. It was sweet and the paste was thick. After that was the homemade ice cream. I love the lychee flavored ice cream. It was balanced with the sweetness and flavor so it wasn’t to sweet or tasted too much of Lychee.

mini-miche tips:

  • Nice and warm no need of a jacket

  • If you are a family ask for one of the large circular tables which is almost like a large private room

  • If you are a small group of 1 or 2 ask for a table next to the window to get great views over the harbor

  • When choosing the four dishes at the start make sure that one of them are the Seared Hokkaido scallop
